Edim,
Very little is ever in a steady state. And delivering a warm product at the end of a pipe is not the same as warming the product in the pipe.
Warming something requires energy. Period.

“Just because a body is at a given overall temperature does not mean every molecule in it is at the same energy level, far from it. In fact the energy levels of individual molecules are constantly changing, stepping up and down the quantum levels.”

This is a moot point. Maybe there are a few molecules among trillions of molecules doing the way you think the majority of the molescules doing.

David, with respect I think you may be confusing yourself.

Axiomatically, no form of energy – is a ‘substance’ – neither heat, nor potential, nor kinetic energy. And yes, in strict terms “flow” is a metaphor, liable to mislead unless recognised as such – I believe the proper term is “flux”.

But none of this demotes “heat” from its status as a form of energy to the status of a mere “manifestation” of energy, as you claimed.

Heat is a form of energy. Temperature is a manifestation of heat.

Dr. Curry,
The blogosphere problem stems from the failure of those who claim to be gatekeepers not doing their job. The strategy of ignoring or minimizing the growing list of news about coruption, fraud, criminal activity by AGW promoters and the suppression of the news that the world is not in fact facing a climate catastrophe means that an honest conversation is not taking place. People roganizing the next major envirocrat waste of money, Rio +20, actually assert that the climate is changing more than we can control and are not laughed off the stage or ridiculed.
As long as the believer community studiously and cowardly refuses to deal with reality, things will then to be boring, even as reality continues to ignore the AGW faithful.

Punsta,

“So given multiple levels then, is it possible for the highest level electron in a cool body, to be at a higher level than the lowest level electron in a warm body?” Only true if the cool body can emit energy equal or higher (impossible) than the loweset electron energy level of the warmer body.

“If not, why not?” see explanation above.

“If yes, is it then not possible for a photon to go from a cool body to a warm one ?” No. As explained above.

Sam You have simply asserted that a cool body can never emit energy equal or higher than the lowest electron energy level of a warmer body. You have thus explained nothing. You merely assumed what you were asked to prove.

David,

“this is true at the engineering level.” Think again. Why is it true at the engineering level not at the science level? Or science can be pseudoscience vs engineering can be pseudoscience?

Punsta,

To understand electron energy levels better, can only advise you to read articles about electron orbital jump energy absorption and emissiion. Have a productive day!

Hunter,

She just listed Chris Mooney on a multiple choice to the blog (for approval or dismissal). What does this tell you about her and more importantly you and your claim above?

You mean well but you subsidize what you are being critical of. Dr. Curry only seems rational when compared to the fruitcake climate communinity as a whole. Comparative relational failure.

What’s a “fake conservative”?

Other than yourself obviously and Myrrh, who were you thinking of?

Latimer,

I have explained the dynamics of glacial growth and why more snow falls in warmer climates than cooler in about as simple of terms as possible. Your refusal or inability to grasp it is not something I can correct.

” If skeptics will not put up an alternative predictive model, they should STFU ”

Sure, just as soon as they get anything like the tens of $billions governments have poured into alarmist models and propaganda.

Or should people with minimal funds also be denied the right to criticize and falsify the models of those those who have massive funds ?

@bart r

Ironic, then, that the Sea Level Research Group is based in Boulder, Colorado. Elevation 5430 feet. And a long long way from any sea.

It seems unlikely – on your argument – that anyone based so high up and so far way from their object of interest can know anything at all about it.

Wow bart, you may even benefit from a bit of global warming.Read a bit more about NZ.It doesn’t snow in Wellington.Thousands of lambs die from the snow in NZ every year.NZ needs warmer temperatures.Oh,btw,I must look up what percentage mountains cover NZ compared to the US.I have no idea.
Let me know if you find out.Be interesting.

Thanks Sam, my minimal physics did though at least include the concept of quanta. So back to my still-unanswered questions :-

Q1: So given multiple energy levels then, is it possible for the highest level electron in a cool body, to be at a higher level than the lowest level electron in a warm body?

Yes/No

Q2: If not, why not?

Q3: If yes, is it then not possible for a photon to go from a cool body to a warm one ?
